Swim wear Party Covers Gone are the days of spending hours at the beach or at the beach party in nothing but your bikini. With the threat of skin cancer on the rise, and the extra little bit of unwanted flab in the middle that we all seem to develop over the years... Hmm, well a cover just seems like the smart and fashionable thing to wear. Sun Skincare Tips We should take good care of our skin all year round. Proper moisturizing and drinking plenty of fluids will help keep your skin healthy and young looking. Summer means we need to take a little extra care over our basic skin regime. Today, it’s pretty hard not to be aware of the damage the sun can do to our skin. Turn on the TV or radio, pick up a magazine – there are warnings everywhere. Funny thing is some people still don’t believe how damaging the sun can be. You’ll hear people say things like “I don’t burn” or “I only burn one and then I tan” or “I don’t believe sunscreen is good for me with all those chemicals.” We cannot stress enough how important it is to protect your skin from the damaging rays of the sun. That doesn’t mean you cannot still get that beautiful tan. It simply means you need to take some precautions so you won’t become a skin cancer statistic in the future. Also taking care will help keep your skin looking younger and healthier. UVA rays cause the skin to age, while UVB rays cause the skin to burn. You simply cannot overdo reminding someone to use sunscreen. We recommend you apply foundation first thing in the morning before leaving your house. Ironic how us women are busy purchasing up all the anti aging products that hit the market trying to keep our skin looking youthful, yet we entirely ignore the damage that the sun can do. So while we are busy applying anti age creams and sirums, we rush outside into the sun without applying any protection from the sun once again damaging our skin. Rather a vicious circle. Okay enough – you get the picture I’m sure! So apply either a foundation with SPF15 first thing in the morning or apply your sunscreen and then your foundation. So what does ultraviolet light do to the skin? UVA rays are the aging rays. They penetrate deep into the layers of the skin. It is believed they are responsible for premature aging and skin cancer. UVB rays are the rays that cause you to burn. They affect the out skin layers and cause sunburn, skin aging, and skin cancer. There are many brands of sunscreen on the market ranging in SPF, some water proof, some are hypo allergenic, some rich in kinetin known for cell rejuvenation and its healing qualities. Clinical studies have actually shown kinetin to reverse and repair sun damaged skin. Choose a sunscreen that best meets your needs. Great, now we’ve slathered sunblock all over our body like we’re suppose to. But there are other areas we need to protect that we often forget about. Our eyes are subject to burning to so be sure to wear sunglasses that have at least a 99% block against UV rays. This will protect your vision and save you from the dreaded crow’s feet. Wear a wide brimmed hat to protect your hair and further shade your eyes. You also need to protect your lips by using a lip gloss or balm that has at least a SPF15 rating. It is also very important to drink lots of fluids. Stay away from caffeine based products and soda pop as they actually dehydrate the body. Drinking plenty of fluids hydrates the entire body so you don’t become a victim of heat stroke. Hydrating the skin also keeps it youthful and allows the body to flush toxins away much easier. Summer is the fun season. Don’t hide inside fearful of the damaging rays. A little protection and common sense will keep you healthy and allow you to get out and enjoy the warm summer season. Have fun in the sun! Remember the days of oversized t-shirts, hoodies, and a host of other shapeless garments that were thrown over swim wear. Well those days are gone and we've once again returned to the sophistication of the 1960s. The beach has got its own sense of fashion now often referred to resort dressing. Glamour and the beach do infact go together very nicely. Did anyone happen to see the runways this spring? Beautiful flowing and colorful caftans in all lengths, cropped knit tops, wraps that can be worn as a skirt or a dress, beaded tunics, and cotton crochet dresses in vibrant colors. There's plenty of other choices hitting the market, check with your local swim suit boutique or have a look on line where the choices are endless. On top of the upscale beach covers, adding your jewelry is a must this season! You simply cannot look finished if you aren't wearing a pair of fabulous earrings or a fun necklace. Don't forget the shoes! Flip flops are big this season with excellent selection. Some are even being adorned with beautiful rhinestones. Not only perfect for swimwear, perfect for a beach wedding too! Add a floppy hat and large canvas or straw bag and your set. If you choose a large enough bag it can carry all your tanning lotions, hair products, and your wallet. Big but classy! Choose a bag and hat that accent your cover and don't be afraid to make your fashion statement! Smooth Summer Skin - Your options Tis the season that makes us much more concerned about body hair. So what are the options for sleek summer skin? Here are the pro's and con's from some the available choices: In the last few years laser has become a very popular hair removal treatment. Laser passes over the skin destroying the hair folicle. It works best on fair skin with dark hair. The treatment leaves a bit of a tingling or pinching sensation. It's not unusual for the skin to take on a red appearance. Laser does require multiple treatments and it is not a permenent solution. It is also a little bit on the pricey side, running around $300.00 a treatment. Electrolysis has been around for years. A thin filament is inserted into the hair folicle which the sends an electric current through to zap the hair root. You'll feel a quick zapping pain which is very tolerable. The bikini areas can be much more sensative. Because each hair folicle is treated individually it can take over a year for a complete treatment. Pricing can vary but is rounding around $60.00 hour. Waxing has also been around for years. A thin layer of either hot or cold was is spread onto the area that is being treated and is removed with a cloth strip. Feeling can range from a slight burning to intense pain. Waxing needs to be done every 2 to 4 weeks and costa around $10.00 a treatment. Shaving is cheap but requires continuous maintenance. It simply removes the hair at the skins surface. The upside is it is painless. Depilatory uses a substance called thioglycolate which is mixed with calcium or sodium hydroxide. The result is the hair being broken down at the root. It is pain free, however a patch test for allergies or sensativities is an absolute must. It takes up to 15 minutes for the creams to work, but in most cases only a few minutes. Lasts from a few days to a few weeks. Cost is around $5.00 per treatment. There are some new products on the market that are certainly worth checking out. Veet has introduced a bladeless razor that works with cream hair removal. Schick has introduces the first four headed razor for women. Sally Hansen has introduced a new wax hair remover enriched with marine extracts to soothe the skin. What ever your choice. Be good to your skin this season and remember to moisturize. Your skin is part of your fashion statement. Smooth glowing skin will make you look younger and refreshed.
